Your computer case is a lot more important than you think. For starters, it plays a critical role in the cooling process of your system. And, your case will also determine what you can and cannot do in the future with your computer (in terms of upgrades.)
Not only that but for a lot of people, the style of their PC case and the way it looks is also an important aspect. Let’s face it, if you put a Lamborghini engine inside of a Toyota Corolla and priced it the same, fewer people would buy it. People like style.
So, despite the little direct impact that your gaming computer’s tower will have on your gaming experience, it’s still crucial that you take your time and select one that will give you excellent airflow, upgrade opportunities, and that will look the way you want it to. Because, in the end, your gaming PC’s case is the only part of your computer that could still be relative and usable 5-10 years down the road.
In this post, we will take a look at the best gaming cases in 2018 at various price ranges for different budget sizes. I’ve broken down the categories into five different price ranges: gaming cases under $50, gaming cases between $50-$100, gaming cases between $100-$150, gaming cases between $150-$200, and gaming cases over $200.
I only chose one case for each price range and while there are definitely some other worthy gaming cases in these price ranges, I felt these offered the best returns for PC gamers. And, if you’re specifically looking for a mini-ITX case, or a micro-ATX case, check those links for our list of the top options at those form factors.
TIER 1: GAMING PC CASES OVER $300
There aren’t a lot of people who actually have the need for a Tier 1 PC case.
That’s because Tier 1 PC cases go far and beyond what a normal tower provides into what are almost unnecessary territories.
However, if you’re planning on building a multi-video card, overclocking, liquid-cooled monster, then you may have a need for one of these cool computer cases.
And, I suppose if you have an unlimited budget and you just want the best-looking desktop case—one that will stop people in their tracks—then a Tier 1 computer tower will suit your needs as well.
They have everything you could want… and then some.
Ultimately, you won’t be disappointed in the features in the cases listed below.

If you have an enormous budget and you are planning on building an extreme gaming/overclocking PC, then the SilverStone TJ11-BW is worth considering.
However, if you’re not planning on running a multi-GPU setup with an over-the-top liquid cooling setup, then you should probably look elsewhere.

SilverStone TJ11-BW Review
Extreme gamers need extreme gaming computers. And, extreme gaming computers need extreme PC cases.
The SilverStone ATX Tower Computer Case is an absolute monster. A little overboard? Probably. A lot of awesomeness? Absolutely.
This case can actually hold and accommodate two power supplies.
And while I can’t think of any plausible reason why you’d ever need two power supplies, the fact that you can do it if you wanted to is cool enough for me!
The TJ11-BW is by no means a budget desktop computer case, though. Coming in at well over $600, it will take quite a large budget to make this case plausible… especially considering cases like the 900D or Cosmos II can be had for nearly half the price.

A nice alternative to the SilverStone TJ11-BW is Corsair’s Obsidian 900D. It comes in quite a bit cheaper than the TJ11-BW and is just as big and as awesome. $300 is a lot to drop on a case, but if you’re going to do so, the 900D is definitely not a bad one to do it on. It wins our War Machine award for PC cases for being so damn extreme.

Corsair Obsidian 900D Review
This super tower case has everything a game could ever dream of… and then some. There’s literally nothing lacking on this tower.
With ten expansion bays and room for multiple power supplies, the sky is the limit with this enormous computer case.
Not only can you fit in nine HDDs/SSDs, but if you want more room, you can fit in additional drive cages (which are sold separately).
The cooling potential of this windowed PC case is also incredible, as it offers mounts for up to 15 total case fans, and has five different radiator mounting points. It also comes with four removable dust filters to help your system stay clean.
All-in-all this gigantic case is worthy of being used for the biggest and baddest builds out there and it should definitely come into the conversation as the best gaming tower on the market.

Lian Li DK-02X Review
For some gamers with a monster budget, the idea of combining your desk and your computer’s case is appealing.
Lian Li has a couple of gaming computer desk options that will allow you to put your computer directly inside of your desk.
The idea behind the DK-02X is pretty cool… you save on space by building your computer directly into your desk.
The DK-02X is minimalistic and sleek-looking and will allow you to build a high-end computer right inside of it. In fact, it has enough room and motherboard mounting positions to allow you to build two completely different builds inside of it.
The downside for me, though, is that you are limited in desk size. I prefer having a wider desk for my triple monitors with another identical desk next to it so that it’s in an L-shaped setup.
Of course, if you want to use triple monitors you could always mount your monitors to your wall, and if you don’t need the extra desk next to it (I use it for work purposes), then you’ll probably be fine with a single desk.
Ultimately, the DK-02X won’t be for everyone, but for those who do choose to build their computer inside of it, you will definitely stand out from the crowd.

TIER 2: GAMING PC CASES UNDER $300

In fact, these Tier 2 cases border on insane themselves and they can also be used for extreme setups just like the Tier 1 cases listed above.
While these cases don’t have quite the overwhelming factor that Tier 1 PC cases have, they are definitely still incredible options, and they’re much more affordable as well.
So, if you’re looking for a really high-end computer case for your gaming PC and you don’t want to pay $300+ for one of the monsters listed above, then these Tier 2 cases will fit your needs.

Phanteks Enthoo Primo Review
The Phanteks Enthoo Primo ATX Ultimate Full Tower Computer Case is a dive into the deep end of the pool for the Dutch company, Phanteks. The computer case is massive at about two foot high and deep. The large size makes it an open canvas for creating the dream bill with all the bells and whistles—because it’ll all fit!
Its elegant design features aluminum front and top panels. The 40-lb case can accommodate motherboards from Micro-ATX boards to E-ATX sized units. There is plenty of room for two power supplies. It’s all about expansion possibilities with additional space for up to six 5.25″ optical drives and another six 3.5” or 2.5” drives.
With a beast like the Phanteks Enthoo Primo, there are 16 different fan mount locations to optimize cooling within the unit. Included with the computer case are two 140 mm front LED fans and additional fans for the bottom, top, and rear. It has a PWM hub to control all the fans in the case with a single PWM signal.
The case also has a thermally isolated PSU to provide additional protection against overheating. There are several design features that make it a builder’s case. They include hidden cables and grommets to add to its aesthetic appeal.
It’s hard to come up with anything to fault it, considering what it offers. It is a huge enclosure that comes with a hefty price tag. But the design has so many attentions to details that it’s easy to justify.

Thermaltake Core P5 Review
Thermaltake has introduced a couple of really cool open frame cases that offer a nice unique option for anyone who wants their PC to stand out from the crowd.
Thermaltake’s Core P5 is an open frame ATX tower case that is built for those who want to show off the core of their system. And, more specifically, for users who want to do a custom-loop water cooling setup.
The P5 has room for graphics cards as long as 11″ when a reservoir is installed, and well over 20″ if no reservoir is installed. However, as I mentioned above, as this case is built for users who will build a custom-loop, you’ll likely use a reservoir in this case and, therefore, are limited to an 11″ graphics card—which may limit you a bit.
The front panel, two side panels, and the top and bottom panels on this case are all tempered glass.
In the end, if you’re looking for one of the best computer cases under $300 and you want something that will help you stand out from the crowd, the Core P5 might be a case you’ll want to consider.

DEEPCOOL GENOME II Review
DEEPCOOL’s GENOME II is probably really more of a sub-$200 case, but since it comes with a case-specific DEEPCOOL AIO cooler, it ends up coming in at just over $200.
The decision you make on your case will come down to your own personal preferences on aesthetics. However, DEEPCOOL’s addition of a 360mm AIO cooler with a pretty cool looking tube in the front is probably something that will win certain gamer’s over.
On the one hand, the helix-style tub in the front of the case gives the GENOME II a cool-looking mad scientist feel to it. And, on the other hand, the fact that the 360mm AIO cooler comes pre-installed will be another nice feature for first-time builders.
The case also has a bottom shroud that exposes the power supply, but will keep all of your cables hidden, which will help you build a cleaner-looking system.
You can fit graphics cards as long as 13″ in this case and that should be enough clearance to accommodate most high-end cards currently on the market.

The Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV Mid-Tower Chassis features many of the attentions to detail and design that we’ve come to expect from the Dutch company, Phanteks. The EVOLV Mid-Tower Chassis is no exception. It boasts a sleek design with plenty of room to create the ideal build. It includes three of the company’s premium 140mm fans, with two in the front and one in the rear. The unit has direct airflow to the CPU and GPU to keep things running cool inside for optimal performance.
The Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV also has extensive radiator support with three different installation areas. It has motherboard support for EATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX units, but, alas, not for any motherboards over 10.7” with a shortage of space. That may be a dealbreaker for some users. The case can, however, accommodate long PSUs or a water pump with its removable HDD cage.
The 22-lb. unit has several other features that show the company has the builder in mind. These include removable dust filters in the front, bottom, and top and Phanteks’ preinstalled Hoop-N-Loop cable ties to keep them under control and out of sight. It also has a changeable power LED light. Ultimately, this chassis is a good-looking eATX case that is well made and sturdy.

The front panel features a high-speed USB 3.0 port for easy access and has a bright white LED backlit CORSAIR logo. If you’re not for branding, this panel is removable.
Internally, the 570X can incorporate up to a 370mm graphics card, or 14.5 inches, which is standard for cases at this price point. If you need space for a larger GPU, you might need to pay a bit more to get it.
While it looks good, the 570x is a straightforward build. It has a tool-less design, and it has three-point dust filter access which makes it easy to clean and maintain. Overall, if you’re looking for a high-end tempered glass PC case, the Corsair 570X is one option to look at.

The Corsair Carbide 600C is one of the more unique PC cases in that, unlike most other cases on the market, it has a reversed design. Or, in other words, rather than the case opening on the right side (if you’re looking at it), it opens on the left side. The design move was apparently made to improve air flow. In any case, though, this full tower case has all of the features necessary to build a high-end gaming PC inside of.

Corsair Carbide 600C Review
If something looks off about the Corsair Carbide 600C, it’s because it is backward!
Unlike all of the other cases on this list (except for the top case on this page, the SilverStone TJ11-BW), the Corsair Carbide 600C has an inverted design.
Basically, that means that everything is backward. If you look at it head on, rather opening it from the left side to access the motherboard, you open it from the right side.
While this may seem strange, Corsair determined that this inverted layout is actually better for air flow than the traditional layout.
Ultimately, the difference in airflow is probably negligible in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t mean that this case should be avoided.
If you don’t mind switching to the inverted layout, this PC case has a ton of other features that make it a worthwhile option, including a full tower design, plenty of space for any kind of build, and a solid overall built quality.
Ultimately, the only downside of this case is the fact that the Define R5 and the H440 offer similar quality and are a little less expensive. But, in the end, there is nothing wrong with choosing this case over those two if it appeals more to you.

The Cooler Master H500P is, in my opinion, a cool-looking case. But, that’s probably because it is the case I chose to build my personal system inside of. The case does have some down falls as it comes with some cheaply built front panels and the airflow is restricted due to not have a front grill. Still, the case has worked well for me (and I am planning on modding it a bit to fix its issues) and if you like its design enough, there’s nothing wrong with choosing it over some of the other options in this price range.

Cooler Master H500P Review
I am probably a bit biased here as my current rig was built inside of a Cooler Master H500P. And, it’s likely because of the fact that this is my personal case that the H500P makes this list.
And, yes, I did choose this case knowing full well what some of its downfalls are… namely, it’s cheap front and top panels, and it’s limited airflow due to a fully acrylic front panel.
However, for the specific features I was looking for in a case (the ability to hold three visible fans in the front and top, as well as the addition of a full-length PSU shroud), the H500P was the only option that had everything I wanted.
And, if you can look past the cheap front panels and restricted airflow the design of this case is unique enough to where it could lure some builders in.
The H500P can hold graphics cards as long as 16.2″ and CPU coolers as tall as 7.5″. It can also hold up to seven different fans as well. The other cool feature on this case is the fact that it will allow you to install your graphics card vertically, which depending on your preferences, can make the inside of your system look better.
Ultimately, there are downfalls to this case, but in my opinion it looks cool and will get the job done for anyone who is looking to build a mid-range-to-high-end system.

TIER 4: GAMING PC CASES UNDER $100
For Tier 4 cases, I essentially looked at cases that cost between ~$70-$100. And, surprisingly, the cases in this tier are pretty darn good options.
For instance, the Phanteks Enthoo Pro and NZXT Source 530 offer quality full tower cases for under $100.
And, the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO is, in my opinion, one of the more interesting cases in this price range. In fact, I even use the HAF XB EVO for the computer I have at my office (although I originally had it to house my HTPC/living-room-gaming-PC.)
Most of these cases can hold just about any setup you have in mind with exception to something on the very extreme side. But, multi-video card setups and liquid cooling are definitely possible with these cases, which is pretty cool considering their price.
Ultimately, if you don’t have more than $100 to spend on your case but you don’t want to sacrifice quality on the cheap computer cases below, these cool PC cases offer a nice middle ground.

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro is awesome because it offers a solid full tower case for a fraction of what some of the other bigger cases on the market are going for. It can accommodate any graphics card on the market, can fit even the tallest of heatsinks, and has room for up to 10 fans. All-in-all, for the price the Enthoo Pro might just be the best value option for PC cases available.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro Review
I’m a big fan of the Phanteks Enthoo Pro. For just under $100 you can get a full tower case that has as much room as any of the Tier 2 or Tier 3 cases and, as such can house just about any build you can think of.
In fact, you can fit a graphics card as long as 18.5″ (which is longer than just about any NVIDIA or AMD card currently available) and a CPU cooler/heatsink as long as 7.5″. However, it should be noted that in order to accommodate a graphics card over 13.6″ you will need to remove the HDD cages.
Thankfully, though, the HDD cages are held in place with thumbscrews and so removing them is a piece of cake.
Another cool feature of the Enthoo Pro is that it comes with the ability to hold up to 10 different fans, which is actually the third highest fan capacity on this list across all tiers.
Ultimately, you don’t have to spend $300 or more on a gaming computer tower when there are options available like the Enthoo Pro. It is easily one of the best computer cases under $100 that you can get.

Phanteks P400S Review
Phanteks is no stranger to making quality cases at reasonable prices. In the past few years they have climbed near to the top of the PC case market with well-designed and nice-looking cases.
The Phanteks P400S is no different.
The P400S has a tempered glass side panel that will allow you to show off your build. And, the full-length PSU shroud will help you keep your cables better-hidden, which will allow you to build a cleaner-looking system.
The case can accommodate graphics cards as long as 15.2″ and CPU coolers as tall as 6.3″. It can also support a 360mm radiator, meaning that you can put a high-end AIO cooler in it, or build a custom loop.
It comes in a few different color schemes as well: black, black & red, black & white, gray, or white.
Ultimately, the Phanteks P400S is a well-priced, sleek-looking mid tower case that is spacious enough to hold a high-end system. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive, but quality case, the P400S might be worth looking into.

Phanteks Enthoo Evolv iTX Review
The Phanteks Enthoo Evolv iTX Case is a smaller, sleeker enclosure from the impressive Phanteks’ lineup of enclosures. It is a budget case that includes the attention to details and design for which Phanteks is known. It resembles the full-sized EVOLV enclosure except in a smaller package.
The unit measures just less than 16” deep and high. It comes in your choice of white, red, or black. It has a sleek and elegant design that is bolstered with a window on the left side panel. The Phanteks Enthoo Evolv iTX includes one 200mm fan in the front with plenty of options to add additional fans. That is where the case shines.
It supports the use of multiple fan configurations including 5 x 120mm, 5 x 140mm, or 1 x 200mm fans. There is plenty of room to opt for the water cooling system route instead. The entire unit is well ventilated with air holes throughout the case to ensure optimal flow.
The case has many of the standard features that enthusiasts will appreciate such as the removable HDD cage, Phanteks’ preinstalled Hoop-N-Loop cable ties, and up to three different installation areas for radiators. Despite its small size, the enclosure has plenty of possibilities for a wicked custom build.
The one downside is that this windowed PC case does not have an option for a DVD or Blu-ray drive which could be a dealbreaker for some. However, it does have removable dust filters on the front and bottom to protect the fan and power supply.

NZXT S340 Review
The NZXT S340 Mid-Tower Computer Case is probably one of the most gorgeous enclosures out there for the budget price point. It features a windowed left side panel and sleek design that exudes class. It has the durability to match with primarily steel construction. It also includes those little details that make a product stand out from the competition.
The unit is just shy of 18” tall and deep. Its compact almost minimalistic design gives it an elegant appearance. It is available in nine different colors, patterns, and finishes. A nylon air filter under the front panel protects the internal components. It has four internal drive bays with 2 x 3.5″ internal drive cages, 1 x 3.5″ in the bottom frame, and 2 x 2.5″ in the system area.
There are, however, no external drive bays which follows the trend of the optical media market heading into the sunset. It supports ATX, mATX, and Mini-ITX motherboards. It includes two 120mm fans with one each in the top and rear. It offers a roomy radiator support in front up to 280mm and up to 120mm in the rear of the unit.
The interior of the case may present some compatibility issues with parts due to some limitations on space due to its construction. However, it is spacious enough to accommodate different cooling options or internal components in the rear of the unit. It’s an excellent choice for the gamer who wants to build a computer inside of an affordable and mid-size computer case.

If you like Thermaltake’s Core P5 open frame case, but you don’t want to spend well over $200 to get it, they do have a smaller version that comes in under $100.

BitFenix Aurora Review
The BitFenix Aurora MidiTower Case is another of the innovative offerings from this company which likes to push the envelope. This enclosure is one of their more attractive models with high-quality tempered glass on both side panels. It certainly is a looker if nothing else. But the case packs some features that make it worth a look.
For a mid-tower case, this one maximizes its use of space. It supports up to a 10.9”-deep motherboard which includes Mini-ITX, mATX, ATX, or even an Extended-ATX if properly labeled. It’s a good size enclosure at just about 20” high and deep. The glass panels certainly will catch your eye. They help keep the noise down, making them function as well as elegant.
But the BitFenix Aurora MidiTower Case has other features of higher end models too such as its front panel port section with a LED controller, USB ports, power button, reset, and headset jacks all in one convenient place. There’s plenty of room for customization with seven expansion slots in the back along with four bays for 3.5″ drives, and space for up to three 2.5″ drives.
On the downside, the enclosure only includes one 120mm fan in the rear of the case. With the tempered glass, cooling presents an issue. The user will need to install additional units to keep it running smooth. Also, the dust filter leaves a lot to be desired, requiring frequent cleaning to protect the internal components.
Ultimately, if you’re looking for a high-quality e-ATX case, the BitFenix Aurora should be considered.

Cooler Master MasterBox 5 Review
Who says you can’t build a high-end gaming computer inside of a budget-friendly case? Because, with the Cooler Master MasterBox 5, you definitely can.
The MasterBox 5 mid tower case is roomy enough to hold any GPU on the market (it has clearance for graphics cards as long as 16.1″) and can accommodate any heatsink available as well (up to 7.1″).
Even more surprising, though, is the fact that the MasterBox 5 can hold an extended-ATX motherboard. That’s pretty rare for a mid tower case.
Aside from the incredible amount of room you get in this case, it also comes with support for up to five fans, or you can place a 280mm radiator in the front of the tower.
It also has multiple locations that will allow you to install up to nine SSDs and it has plenty of cutouts to space to accommodate clean cable management.
Ultimately, while the MasterBox 5 sits in a category full of cheap gaming PC cases, the truth is that it plays more like a high-end case than some options on the market that cost twice as much. It has one expansion slot and an increasingly rare, optical disc drive as a welcome addition. The Cougar Case QBX has room for one 3.5″ and four 2.5″ drives as well as four SSDs.

MasterBox Lite 3.1 Review
I recently had the chance to review the MasterBox Lite 3.1 from Cooler Master and I was very impressed on what the case had to offer.
For starters, despite its small size, the Lite 3.1 can accommodate the largest graphics cards and heatsinks currently on the market. Or, in other words, despite being so small, you can fit a high-end single-GPU setup inside of this case.
Yet, the case is still incredibly affordable (just under $45 at the time of writing this).

If you have a budget of $400 or higher, the Thermaltake Versa H21 is worth considering. It’s on par with the VIVO V01, but it doesn’t support quite as big of a GPU. Still, with 12.4″ of clearance for your video card, it can fit most GPUs on the market. Ultimately, it is capable of housing a high-end setup, but it just isn’t as well-built as some of the gaming computer towers in the higher tiers.

Thermaltake Versa H21 Review
I typically go back and forth between the Thermaltake Versa H21 and the VIVO V01 as both virtually serve the same purpose…
Usually, they’re both the only two mid tower cases under $40 that are spacious enough to be able to fit mid-range to higher end video cards in them.
And, so they make perfect options for my $700 and $800 budget builds.
Just as I said with the VIVO case, the H21 isn’t going to blow you away, but it is a solid option for the price and the money you save on it will free up some extra money on parts that will have a bigger impact on your in-game performance (like your graphics card.)
So, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly case that has a decent amount of space for the price you pay and that can house a video card like a GTX 970 or R9 390, then the Thermaltake Versa H21 is definitely worth considering.

The Rosewill Ranger-M Micro-ATX Mini Tower is the perfect option for gamers who are looking to build a budget-friendly gaming computer. Obviously, there’s not a lot of room in this case, but if you’re looking to cut costs on your build in order to allow for more money to be spent on your GPU and CPU, then this case will get the job done until you can afford to get something fancier.

Rosewill Ranger-M Review
Sometimes, the one area where budget builders make a mistake is that they overspend on their case at the sacrifice of their overall system’s performance.
Because, let’s face it… other than being cool to look at and playing a role in cooling your components, the computer case you choose will not have a big impact on your new gaming computer’s in-game performance.
And, while it is ideal to have a roomy case with high air flow, if you are strapped for cash and performance is your biggest concern, you might want to forego getting a nice-looking case for now and, instead, go with a budget case that can hold all your components.
The Rosewill Ranger-M will allow you to do just that. At just under $25, there probably isn’t a better budget-friendly case option on the market. And, despite its low cost, it still has room enough to fit an 11.8″ graphics card and 5.9″ CPU cooler.
That means that you can basically build a moderate-to-high-end single-GPU gaming PC inside of this case, despite its ridiculously low price.
Ultimately, if you’re in the market to build a cheap gaming computer, you can build it inside of the Rosewill Ranger-M and the money you save can be put towards components that will better improve your system’s overall performance. And, of course, you can always upgrade it in the future when you have more money to spend.

WHICH CASE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR GAMING PC?
The case you choose for your gaming PC is not going to increase your framerate or improve your load times. It’s also not going to increase how much storage space you have or how much memory your PC contains.
However, the case does hold all of your components and, as such, dictates which components you can use. If you choose a case that doesn’t have a lot of clearance for your graphics card, you will be limited to choosing a smaller graphics card. And, while a lot of graphics cards manufacturers are packing their higher-end cards into smaller offerings, in most cases, the smaller the card, the less power it provides.
Another key component of your case is air flow. The better the design of the case is, the more airflow can enter into it and keep your components cool. And, of course, one of the most important parts of choosing your case is aesthetics. While some people don’t care what their case looks like, for others, the design is the most important aspect.
So, when looking for the best computer towers, it’s important that you take those three factors into consideration. Fortunately, though, the options listed above will give you plenty of choices to choose between, from cheap computer cases all the way up to the best computer cases.

Cannot find much info on the Corsair Spec-02 vs Corsair Carbide 200R. I’m new to pc building and this is really the only place I can think of to find out. I’m doing the EGC 1500 USD build (dire wolf I think). Would the Spec-02 work as a replacement for the carbide 200r? Being that they’re the same price and I would appreciate the side window on the spec-02, this is a tough one for me.

Cooler Master MasterBox 5, let’s face it comes down to size, and how sleek it looks ultimately. All of my old cases were similar to this but this is much more beautiful with options. And I’ve had a soft spot for coolermaster since my first ATX case.

Hey Brent,
Any opinion on DIYPC and the quality of towers they put out?
Specifically, I am looking at the DIYPC Gamestorm-W White Dual USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case. I’ve selected all white/blue components whenever practical, and I am nervous because this tower costs so little.
Here is the build I am looking to put in it:

There’s been a bit of a shift in the ‘gaming case’ industry. Lots more emphasis on visuals, cable management, etc. Lots of the top cases have been eliminating the need for Optical Drives in order to get better airflow, and adding a shroud to cover the PSU/cabling and hard drives. With the rise of m2/NVME and PCI-based SSDs and the rapidly dropping prices of SSDs in general, there’s really not as much demand in the gaming space for 3.5″ HDD support anyways, so this space is minimized or eliminated entirely.
The first case to attack this trend was the NZXT S340. This case was very popular with a large number of variations and spawned a number of competitors. First came the Phanteks p400 and the Corsair Carbide 400C. These three, with their awesome aesthetics and great airflow, are, in some circles, regarded as the most popular “gaming” cases out there right now.
Also there’s been a lot of press around using Tempered Glass windows instead of acrylic. In Win cases have been doing this for a while, but other case producers like Phanteks have been paying attention.

Hey what about the NZXT Manta? I love this case, as it’s a little large for an ITX case, but it has room for DUAL 280mm rads. Seriously. And while you can’t do anything with SLI being an ITX case, however you can throw in a GTX 980 ti WaterForce which handles 4k and overclocking rather nicely. BTW, it’s a kickass graphics card. Got it to 1786 on the core and ~1600 on the core, and the damn thing comes in a full component copper waterblock (GPU, VRM, power delivery, ect.). But basically, the NZXT Manta is a pretty cool case and comes in at the same price as the 380T from corsair. Also a cool ITX case.
Brent Hale says
Hey John, thanks for the heads up! Just added the Manta.
All the Best,

Something to be aware of concerning the Phantom case (the black one with green trim listed in tier 3) – the top 200mm fan slots won’t fit standard 200mm fans – only ones made by NZXT with a 193mm offset. And as of last month, NZXT customer service told me they didn’t even have any for return purposes, and did not know if they would get any more. Since this case only comes with one top fan preinstalled, this could be an issue for some. My bet is that they have quietly discontinued support for a case that is a few years old. Their newer Phantom models (ones with a number designation) all supposedly use standard 200mm fans.
Brent, this is an awesome site and a go-to resource for me. I was wondering what your detailed opinion is on the Thermaltake Level 10 GT case. You have it listed in tier 2, and there are some great deals out there on it right now.
Johmac says
This is a problem with some other brands as well. Only a couple of thin fans to be found. One is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009XERK6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. BY aerocool. I have used this one successfully in a tight overhead space. I got another one which I have yet to try is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013SPY842/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 by bitfenix.
What I notice is that, at least with the aerocool, it may not be well designed for overhead placement. As the fan motor starts to wear, the fan blades are pulled down by gravity just enough to get hung up on the lower enclosure. May take a year or two for this, so just be aware and look at your fan once in a while, which you should do anyway.

Any reason the Fractal Design R4 is not on this list?
Brent Hale says
Hey Groovy, how’s it going?
This list has a lot of the top cases on the market, but, admittedly, doesn’t feature them all.
I do need to go through it and add more to the list in the next update, but other than the fact that the list isn’t a extensive as it should be, no there isn’t a reason.
Anything Fractal Design makes will be top quality.
Hope this helps! I’ll see to adding Fractal Design cases and others that are missing in the next update.
